The fun of teaching shaman skills

I'm still reflecting on the fun I had today with a shaman student. 

She has a background in various holistic tools, and a natural shamanic tendency. We'd planned that today I would use pathworking and invite her to experience my soul space. I've done this before with students, but not often as it’s a deeply personal thing to share.

Before she came, I'd journeyed myself- my soul space is on a "war footing" at the moment, and I'd asked certain guides to step back to create a calmer space. I'd done a rune reading for myself pulling the runes connected with Frigg, Frey, and Loki, but this was my personal work and not something we discussed.

After a brief chat we both sat, focused on breath, and then I started drumming.

I described the small room where I start, the door, the woodland path. Leading up to the threshold of my soul space where I simply drummed and allowed her to experience it.

I walked over to the fire, the stars were bright, Odin and Frey were sat by the fire. There is some concern about a personal situation being a threat and Odin was smoking his pipe and offering practical advice. Frey stood up saying, “I’d better go and chat with her”, he leaped into my tree, sitting on a branch with his legs swinging.  I turned to talk to Odin when I saw a tail snaking through my soul space. I looked again as a crazy misfit dragon larger than my tree curled around the edge of my soul space and I heard manic laughter. It seemed I had Odin and Loki.

A point came when Frey walked back to the fire nodding at me that the journey was over and I talked my student and myself back. We grounded and started to discuss.

She’d seen the bright green of the May morning trees, with the starlight. She’d seen a fire pit, then seen a rabbit (associated with Frigg- the first of my runes).

She saw a fae figure, then described Frey as I see him, specifically describing him as sitting in my tree looking down (Frey was my second rune).

She accurately described the mismatched, shape changing dragon that was Loki wrapped around my soul space (my third rune).

I love the magic, buzz, and shared experience of shamanic work.

 It’s easy with shamanic work to think you are imagining it or making it up- and sometimes there is some daydreaming mixed in with the work. It can be hard to draw a clear distinction. It’s when validation like this occurs- spookily accurate details my student could have had no idea about- that you remember just how powerful the work really is.
